Third Place Density
One of five Agora components. Measures the density of “third places” — cafes, restaurants, pubs/bars, libraries, and community/social centres — per 1,000 population, category-weighted rather than a flat point count.

OpenStreetMap is Agora’s only non-sovereign input across the whole branch. Its licence (ODbL) permits the commercial use APN makes of it, with no restriction relevant here.
The POI category taxonomy covers cafe/restaurant/pub/bar/library/community_centre/social_centre, extended in July 2026 to include park/sports_centre/place_of_worship/marketplace. The original and extended categories currently use different node/way-geometry inclusion conventions within this same metric — an unreconciled inconsistency, disclosed here rather than silently normalised.
Alignment with the pillar. Across the 6,785 localities scored on both, this component and APN Agora™ (Amenity & Access Index) (24140) have a correlation of 0.44, on a scale where 1 means the two scores move together exactly and 0 means they are unrelated. The two are loosely aligned: a locality’s score on this component says only a little about its overall Agora score, and the component carries information the pillar’s other inputs do not.
Each bar is the average locality score in that jurisdiction, with every locality counted equally regardless of population; the dashed line marks the national mean of 48.45. The Australian Capital Territory averages highest at 59.7 (102 localities) and Tasmania lowest at 42.2 (319). Victoria averages 53.1, Queensland 49.6, Western Australia 47.6, New South Wales 47.0, South Australia 44.9 and the Northern Territory 44.5. Other Territories (4 localities) are not shown.
The other four components of APN Agora™ (Amenity & Access Index) (24140).
- OpenStreetMap (ODbL) licence confirmed compatible for this use
- POI taxonomy extended in 2026 — inclusion-convention reconciliation still open
