24134 – Advancement Velocity

One of five Meridian components. Measures career and educational advancement over time — the 2016→2021 change in household income and in Bachelor’s-degree-or-higher attainment. A trajectory measure, distinct from and complementary to Human Capital Depth’s (24133) stock measure of current attainment level — not redundant with it.

Alignment with the pillar. Across the 6,470 localities with more than 200 residents scored on both, this component and APN Meridian™ (Education Value Index) (24130) have a correlation of 0.61, on a scale where 1 means the two scores move together exactly and 0 means they are unrelated. The two are moderately aligned: a locality that scores high on this component tends to score above average on Meridian, with many exceptions. This component is one of the pillar’s five inputs, so part of that alignment is built into the pillar itself.

Each bar is the average score of the jurisdiction’s localities with more than 200 residents, with every locality counted equally regardless of population; the dashed line marks the national mean of 50.80. Tasmania averages highest at 58.5 (301 localities) and the Northern Territory lowest at 38.4 (160). Victoria averages 57.1, the Australian Capital Territory 53.6, South Australia 53.5, New South Wales 52.2, Queensland 47.1 and Western Australia 39.9. Other Territories (4 localities) are not shown.
