State & Territory Conditions
State & Territory Conditions (21800) reads economic and housing conditions in each of the eight states and territories. Each node publishes one reading per jurisdiction, and each reading is measured against that jurisdiction’s own history: the question is whether conditions in a state are unusual for that state, not how one state compares with another. National conditions are read in the 21200, 21400 and 21500 series.
The series has no composite. State readings are not averaged into a national figure, because the national figure is read directly elsewhere, and they are not combined across nodes.
The four nodes of the series. All four are live: Public Investment Intensity (21810), State Price-to-Earnings (21820), State Supply Adequacy (21830) and State Completion Lag (21840).
Every node in the series uses the same approach. Each state’s input is standardised against its own 2011–2025 baseline, and each reading is ranked against that state’s own full-coverage history. Inputs that are lumpy in the smaller jurisdictions are smoothed with four-quarter sums, and inputs published only for some states, or only in some forms, are disclosed on the node page. Readings for the smaller jurisdictions rest on smaller samples and move more from quarter to quarter.
State labour conditions are read within the Employment & GDP family.
