Analytical Mandate
Node 21680 measures the dominant narrative register of the Australian media ecosystem as it pertains to residential property market conditions, housing policy, and the macroeconomic variables that constitute the 21000 Series data environment.
Media coverage of property-relevant events is not a neutral transmission of institutional data. It is a framing layer that mediates between the empirical signal — the policy change, the data release, the regulatory intervention — and the behavioural response of market participants.
Market participants act on the media narrative as often as they act on the underlying data. Node 21680 captures the character of that framing layer and assesses its likely effect on the Node 21620 (Market Psychology) and Node 21640 (Consumer & Business Sentiment) data environments.
Node 21680 does not assess whether media coverage is true or false. It assesses the structural characteristics of coverage — which outlet categories foregrounded which measures, which beneficiary cohorts were represented, which omissions were consistent across the media landscape, and what political or commercial characterisation frames were applied.
The Ten Bias Vectors
The MNSI is constructed from ten bias vectors assessed across all twelve outlet categories for each observation event.
| Vector | Dimension | Assessment Focus |
|---|---|---|
| A | Primary Lead Measure | Which policy measure or event was foregrounded as the central subject |
| B | Investor Cohort Coverage Quantum | Approximate proportion of editorial space devoted to investor-cohort impacts |
| C | Renter/Welfare Cohort Coverage Quantum | Approximate proportion devoted to renter, social housing, and welfare-adjacent impacts |
| D | Key Mechanics Accuracy | Whether the most material technical detail of the primary measure was accurately communicated |
| E | Source Voice Ratio | Industry/commercial voices to community/advocacy voices — approximate ratio |
| F | Conflict-of-Interest Disclosure | Whether commercial relationships to the covered subject matter were disclosed |
| G | Register Classification | Clinical / Advocacy / Alarmist / Political — dominant editorial register |
| H | Political Frame Application | Seven-frame taxonomy: Fiscal±, Class, Electoral, Historical, Migration, Crisis, None |
| I | Coverage Omissions | Measures or data absent from coverage; cross-referenced against factual baseline |
| J | Historical Frame Activation | Whether prior political conflicts were activated as framing devices — explicit or implicit |
